Introducing Viking Yi Dun

by Rose White

VIKING YI DUN
SHIP OF THE MONTH – OCTOBER 2024
WEEK 1 OF 4

Dedicated specifically to exploring destinations in China, with an onboard experience that complements guests’ discoveries ashore. The Viking Yi Dun —formerly the Viking Sun—is a sister ship featuring the same award-winning design and service as all other ocean ships in Viking’s fleet.

Having a gross tonnage of 47,800 tonnes, with 465 staterooms that host 930 guests; the Viking Yi Dun features all veranda staterooms, Scandinavian design, light-filled public spaces and abundant al fresco dining options.

Viking Yi Dun recently completed her first voyage from Shanghai to Hong Kong (Shenzhen) on Viking’s 10-day China Discovery voyage. The itinerary highlights rarely visited destinations and ports to which only Viking has access—something that has never been offered for international visitors.

The new voyages range from 10 to 22 days and explore iconic cities, such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong. Additionally, these voyages include stops in Japan, which is one of the most popular destinations to visit right now. Due to its high demand, Viking’s Japan voyages are selling out fast.

Each voyage will offer The Viking Way® of exploration, with immersive experiences to introduce guests to the people, history and culture of China, including insightful lectures, Chinese-inspired cuisine and destination experts.

With its ancient history and rich culture, China is a phenomenal destination that many curious travellers have not yet had the opportunity to experience. For 15 years, Viking has introduced China to guests on their Yangtze River itineraries. Now, they are proud to offer these exclusive domestic sailings in China and look forward to welcoming people to this part of the world in the Viking way.

In true Viking style, they take a different approach to design on their ocean ships – so much so that if it weren’t for the all-encompassing water views, guests wouldn’t know they were on a cruise ship at all. Viking engaged esteemed hotel designers to design and furnish their beautiful interiors, so that from the moment a guest steps on board they will feel the same sense of serenity, warmth and comfort symbolised in the Norwegian concept of hygge. This notion of quiet contentment is in the very air of their light-filled, serene spaces, which together create a true home at sea for their guests.

The Living Room Bar & Atrium

The Living Room’s clinker-built bar, inspired by ancient Viking longships, is perhaps the most charming at sea. Located at the heart of the ship, it is the ideal setting to relax with a drink and catch up with new friends.

Explorers’ Lounge

With two-storey panoramic windows ensuring incredible views are always on display, the Explorers’ Lounge is inspired by epic journeys of discovery. There’s no better place to share a glass of wine with friends and take in the magnificence of the world.

1872

Night owls will flock to our atmospheric, 1940s lounge-inspired bar, 1872. Open from 9PM until late, 1872 hosts a live band every evening and boasts the largest collection of vintage Armagnacs at sea, dating back to 1935. For those wanting to kick up their heels and dance the night away with a cocktail or two, this is the place to be.
