Notre-Dame Exhibition at the Immigration Museum: Step Back in Time

by Rose White

Prepare to be transported through 850 years of history at the Immigration Museum this summer.

The highly anticipated Notre-Dame de Paris: The Augmented Exhibition offers families a rare glimpse into the storied past of the world’s most famous cathedral. This immersive experience blends history and technology, bringing to life Notre-Dame’s incredible journey from its medieval beginnings to its modern-day restoration.+

Notre-Dame de Paris Immigration Museum

Step into the Long Room at the Immigration Museum and discover Notre-Dame de Paris as never before. The exhibition uses cutting-edge augmented reality through the HistoPad, a touchscreen tablet that creates a 360-degree experience of the cathedral’s history.

Navigate through 20 key moments, from the laying of its first stones in the 12th century to Napoleon Bonaparte’s glittering coronation in 1804. Relive the grandeur of King Henry IV’s wedding in 1572 and witness the meticulous restoration efforts following the 2019 fire.

Designed for all ages, the HistoPad combines historical accuracy with digital innovation, making history accessible, engaging, and educational.

The exhibition pays tribute to the architects, artisans, and builders whose vision and skill shaped the cathedral. You’ll gain insight into the artistry behind its magnificent stained-glass windows, intricate stone carvings, and iconic gargoyles.

From medieval craftsmanship to modern restoration techniques, the exhibition highlights the enduring legacy of one of France’s greatest cultural treasures.

Tot Tips for Notre-Dame de Paris Immigration Museum

  • We recommend the exhibition for kids 10+ years. While the Histopad is an engaging ipad-like device, there’s a lot of text to read as you click through. As such, I think kids 10+ years will get the most out of the exhibit.
  • If you read through everything in the exhibition it will take you approx 60-90 minutes.
  • Stop at Le Café. Carlton’s cult patisserie Calle Bakery has a pop-up cafe in the museum’s atrium. Serving barista-made coffee, baguettes, salads and sandwiches every day and their famous glossy pastries and flaky croissants Tuesday to Sunday
  • Check out the special programming – During the school holidays and on select days, take part in guided tours, expert talks, a French conversation club, and family-friendly craft activities.
  • Explore the rest of the Immigration Museum! The ‘Joy’ exhibition is fun and colourful for kids and see if you can spot the picture of me in the Identity exhibition!
