Wilderness Rwanda has confirmed it will open its newest luxury safari lodge, Wilderness Magashi Peninsula, in Akagera National Park in September 2025.
Situated on a private peninsula within Rwanda’s largest protected wetland, the lodge will allow guests to witness iconic wildlife, including lions, rhinos, and elephants, while directly supporting their conservation.
The exclusive eight-bed camp will feature a four-bed villa, with two additional twin rooms, all located 200 metres apart to provide privacy for families and groups. Each room is equipped with a private plunge pool and is carefully situated to offer wildlife viewing opportunities.
“Akagera is a place of extraordinary beauty and ecological importance, and this new launch deepens our commitment to celebrating and preserving Rwanda’s enthralling savannah safari experience,” Executive Director of Wilderness Rwanda Manzi Kayihura said.

“Here, guests can observe lions, rhinos, elephants and other iconic species in their natural habitat, while directly supporting their conservation through meaningful engagement.”
Located close to Lake Rwanyakazinga and the Mutumba Mountains, the Magashi Peninsula offers exceptional game viewing across 10 diverse habitats. Guests can also enjoy exclusive water-based excursions, night drives, and catch-and-release fishing.
Beyond the wildlife experiences on offer are private dining, wellness treatments and rooftop star beds for taking in the night skies. The lodge will also showcase Rwanda’s cultural heritage, with interiors inspired by local design.
Powered entirely by solar energy, Wilderness Magashi Peninsula will operate with a minimal environmental footprint. “Every detail aligns with our purpose-driven ethos,” Kayihura said. “The lodge’s construction and daily operations will engage team members from neighbouring communities, creating meaningful employment.”
He suggested pairing Akagera’s wildlife encounters with gorilla trekking at Volcanoes National Park – accessible from Wildlife Rwanda’s newly opened Wilderness Bisate Reserve.
